First, you can spend 5 or 6 bucks for a crappy rental movie with "so-called" great reviews. From the eye catching opening credits, production values, and story, I was pleasantly surprised.
This German hacker espionage thriller filled with twists and turns was perfect for a lazy afternoon, better than a good book or boring artsy film like the Lobster or another B-movie flick you could pick on Amazon.
I challenge folks not to be hooked after episode 3 and want to see how it all ends. Again, avoid the bad reviews and decide for yourself.
My hunch is you will thank Amazon for the video experience. Lots of twists and turns I am not sure if I Matthias Schweighöfer is a genius or needs psychotherapy!
As the creator and writer of this series, he certainly has a vivid imagination. I was mesmerized, engaged, and on the edge of my seat.
A bit too dark for me at times. That's a down-side. The main character, Lukas Matthias S. I found myself rooting for him each and every episode.
Great series, but rather dark. I have been watching the season in German with English subtitles but last night Amazon uploaded only the English dubbed version and the German original version is no longer available.
Losing the voice of the actors like this alters the experience. I would like Amazon to put back the German version with the English dub version being an optional version to watch.
Interestingly there are now two versions available but both are the English dub. The dubbing totally ruined this for me. The accents sound so unrealistic.
Maybe if they had used German accents. I can handle subtitles. When you dub, it robs the film of it's essence and culture--so unnatural.
Seriously, for those who think they "don't do subtitles" should really give it a try. Relax and focus on the screen.
You'll have to hit pause if you want to get up for a moment. Paradoxically, I find that turning up the sound helps. It's also fun to catch the English words or phrases that must be in common use.
Suggested practice: watch Deutschland I'll give this another try if Amazon provides a subtitled version. A few years ago material provided by Snowdon indicated that American intelligence agencies were hacking German intelligence agencies like the BND and this included the Chancellor's phone.
There was a measured protest of sorts by the German government and I think some American officials were expelled. The plot of this series is clearly inspired by those events.
A cyber thriller is heavily dependent on its plot. This one is pretty decent but a bit shy of believability at times. But the commitment of the production and actors lifts the show to four stars.
The cinematography or whatever is very good. German tv is available on the net but I never got around to watching it. Now it's come to Amazon.
I love 'visiting' a new country, albeit virtually. Beautifully choreographed, surreal cinematography, realistic characters and amazing script.

Germany is a gorgeous country A lot of this show gets lost in the dubbed version, as is the case in any dubbed film or show.
You are better off watching a foreign film in its original language with subtitles, if you don't speak that language. The acting, the drama and the translation get lost with dubbing.
As to the show, great acting, good plot and very entertaining. Not to mention some nice eye candy. The only negative was the dummy double laying dead on the pavement at the very end, after the car explosion.
It was rather obvious. Other than that thumbs up! Unstoppable action. Great show, awesome acting, can't wait for season 2!
