One person found this helpful. Instead of using actors it used puppets derived from the British TV show The Thunderbirds from the 60s. That sense of humor comes right at you.
In the first scene, a group of terrorists who look like they just walked out of the caves of Afghanistan are intercepted in Paris by Team America.
Then things flip to Team America recruiting an actor who ran a successful musical with the lead song being about how everyone has AIDS. The actor thinks the man from Team America wants to have sex with him so he can get a movie part.
Because it was a film format with an R rating the guys from South Park got to push things even more with the jokes and cursing.
This is an absurd movie from the South Park guys. Not for children. There is a tremendous amount of profane and sexually oriented language.
Basically, it is a parody that PC would not allow to be made today. The characters are all marionettes. You get over that fairly quickly and it's amazing how alike the puppets look to their real life counterparts.
A lot was made of the movie I think it was "the interview" , that was not released in theatres, then it was. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are amazing, not just with their satire, but with the detail they put into the movie.
The "found objects" that are fun to look for in the movie, just the puppets who would have thought THAT was a good idea?

The story is well written and it seems that the puppets act better than some real actors so as a film it works well. I'd heard there was a puppet sex scene but I'd expected it to be more of a missionary position scene but it turned out be lengthy and involve multiple positions.
Lots of swearing, mostly the F word, which was generally amusing, perhaps because it was unexpected from a puppet. A great film, good story, well written, good dialogue deliberately tongue in cheek , good acting from the puppets and nothing to be taken too seriously.
Best of all one of the funniest films I've seen in a long time. Almost forget a puppet vomits! Report abuse. For that alone, it gets my vote.
Trey and Stone's gleefully vicious, staggeringly non-PC attacks on America's right, left and center makes Team America an utterly outrageous delight.
Funny as hell. I heard a review for Southpark once which said "still the best program for slaughtering sacred cows" and this film continues in the tradition.
Plus the funniest puppet scene ever; the I'm so Lonely song; watch it and weep. My wife "made " me go to see the musical Rent so I make her watch this.
But she gets the best of the deal by far. I am a fan of the guys work you probably guessed that by now but if you have never seen anything from the team and don't get offended by Adult Themes give it a try.
