I'm happy to say that this film set outs what it says it will do, by drenching you in Gore, blood, and insanity. If you're a fan of the originals like i am I think you'll like it overall, The gripes that I had with it were that I think they rushed it a little too much They could have spent more time building tension and suspense and the acting while it's satisfactory at best, buy the last 35 minutes of the movie I didn't really end up caring about any of the characters.
In conclusion if you like the originals I think you'll like this for what it is, yeah ash isn't here but the director told the story in his own way, and I think he succeeds.

Great to see Evil Dead in all it's gory glory, this version was mistakenly shown by channel 4 once on tv but has never been shown since and only the theatrical cut is available in the uk This is for the Scandinavian Blu Ray Extended edition.
I'd forgotten how utterly gruelling, gory, thrilling, and frightening this film is and with the extended version having 6 minutes of extra footage and loads of extras it's well worth getting as it's playable in the UK.
I feel it's unfair to try to make comparisons to the original trilogy. They are both amazing for differing reasons. I loved this film so much, especially in the dark with surround "cans" on.
Well this doesn't have both the theatrical version included or, as advertised, the commentary track. But for a tenner, this is a great priced alternative to the USA or German extended versions which have 2 discs, both versions and a commentary.
After the success of Marcus Nispels Texas chainsaw massacre in we have had most of the classic horror films of the s and 80s remade. This is a good effort and continues the mythology of the book of the dead.
It is far more violent than the original film, this made me go yuk whereas the original made me go agh!
It's also faster paced then the original and the humour has gone as this film is a straight up horror piece. Star of the original trilogy Bruce Campbell said in the extras that this film can be seen as a separate story, one in a parallel universe, where the question remains as to how the book ended up in that cabin.

A crossover evil dead featuring Mia and Ash would be something to look forward too! I loved the original and the sequels. However it quite a good movie and worth watching I enjoyed.
With Bruce Campbell making an appearance at the end of the titles sort of made it cannon. For me. Loved the Bruce Campbell version for all it's edgy slapstick humour, this lacks that.
But it is extremely well delivered and follows fairly close to the original storyline. Jane Levy puts in an outstanding performance , a far cry from suburgatory for those who've seen her in that.

The camp was in Evil Dead 2, an horror comedy remaking the original already, technically. This remake finds many way to bow to the original, aside the obligatory visual quotes.
The use of practical effects, notably, in an era of CGI- filled movies, is extremely refreshing. The gore feels painful, makes you cringe, churned my stomach.
It successfully palliates a somewhat shallow characterization that makes it difficult to root for the characters with the exception of Mia, who owes a lot to a really visceral performance by Jane Levy.
And this is where Evil Dead took me by surprise. After roughly a first half of the movie taking Evil Dead fans by the hand towards hashed and rehashed territories, making them doubt that this was a good idea at all, the movie lets go of your hand and you're alone, in the middle of the woods, and it's dark and there's strange noises all about I won't get into conjectures that the highly conventional and overly familiar first half was made that way with the sole purpose of placing the audience in their comfort zone, only to give more impact to the second half Evil Dead is a treat for the fans of gore and horror, in any case.
Another reminder that out of ten awful remakes, sometimes one rises to the top and delivers. Not for the faint of heart, for sure, but if you're a true horror fan, and even more, if you miss your old school, gruesome gore rides, this one is for you.

I am impressed with the shot angles, disturbing sequences of audio, and the repetitive nature of each foreboding theme.
Whether it be banging on a cabin or laughter that never seems to stop this movie kept me on my toes. I expected hilarity like in Ash vs. Evil Dead or Army of Darkness, both of which lead me here.
I got none. I witnessed a young man exposed to gruesome possessions wherein he is forced to make a choice: dismember your friends or die.
The dialogue was a bit cheesy in a couple places but everything else made up for those very small moments. Altogether I think its a great movie and a definite classic in my book.
First off the movie is great, it's exactly what you want and looks pretty great. The things I don't like are the uninspired packaging and complete lack of special features.
And I don't even think theyre watching the movie just kinda talking about random things about the making of the movie.
They don't reference any part of it and they nearly mute the movie to kinda go along with the lack of connection to what you're seeing on screen.
Extreme horror punctuated perfectly with just the right amount of comic relief and drama. Sometimes the make-up and special effects are primitive and not exactly "seamless", but the movie and the performances are just so great that this doesn't detract from the experience at all.
I've seen The Evil Dead over 40 times in just about as many years and it just keeps getting better with every viewing.

Although dated in many ways, it still shocks at times and has many laugh at loud moments whether deliberate or not. The low-budget and grainy look of the film does not hold up too well on blu-ray in comparison to other films, but this was to be expected and it still probably looks the best and most vibrant it ever has done.
Also includes a good amount of interesting special features and behind the scenes documentaries on the film. Released way back in the days of VHS and Betamax video tapes, this film may be long in the tooth but it still packs a mighty punch.
Yes you've probably seen it all before, but the ammount of gore in this still shocks and numbs the senses.
Whilst it doesn't have 'modern' cgi effects, the old fashioned prosthetics add an almost surreal animated visual aspect to the gore that gives the film a quirky -and even more terrifying 'other-world', feel than most modern movies do.
The characters are way over the top and make all the classic mistakes that 'victims' always do, but this film does them even more obviously than others, proving beyond doubt that 'horror victims' are truely stupid.
So pull up the chair, get the mates around, turn off the lights, get some popcorn and have yourself a good old fashined scare fest with this classic.
Mind you, you may not want to eat once the gore kicks in. Alternatively, just watch it with someone who screams a lot and you wont be disapointed Report abuse.
I never thought that this item would be as good as it was. This is definitely well worth the money. The outer material I thought would have been plastic so I was very surprised when I realized it was like a latex consistency.
