Rating: I read this over a decade ago when it was first serialized and re-read it on a whim since I like Vanitas.

I feel like the main problem was how much of the story is ret-conned and plot twists that were pointless. I feel like the story fell apart Spoiler mouse over to view.

I mean Xerxes did have redemption ending and that worked. Also, what was Vincent's curse again? Sorry, he's just a weird character. Finally, the forced time skip made me realize IDR so many of the characters since they faded into the background or died.

My major credit and utmost respect for the entire series is that each chapter or every few chapters, you get a new development and plot twists, and the most important factor, is the foreshadowing includes plot twists.

Despite the patience-testing occasionally, after certain major events, bits by bits, everything fits in but not completely in a sense. It draws you back into recalling the various hints and moments that might not have seemed too important but ends up being crucial.

This was the sensation that I've always loved because it rattles your mind only to throw you off sometimes.

Every character has a role or a connection to every factor, if not, it relates to the story to some extent or beyond. They blend well, they don't totally miraculously appear from nowhere whenever a new character is introduced.

I don't think I've ever disliked any characters after finishing Pandora Hearts, in fact I loved them to a certain extent even if I was previously annoyed before.

Maybe it was due to the anime, but it felt much easier to read, imagining how the characters' voices from the anime did its charm sometimes.

Not to mention once you've seen their backgrounds, you can't really dislike any either, each character has their own philosophy as humans we are as well.

Nonetheless, I grew fond of most characters, the theme being an instant bait for me, and how the series advances slowly but with regards as it is a mystery as well I believe Mochizuki executed everything splendidly befitting of it's contents and what it is.

Honestly, I wish for a Pandora Hearts anime reboot so it can adapt everything that the anime couldn't have done as it was still progressing at that time.

Pandora Hearts is a series that I love, for the set up and the development that it was underestimated but regardless, it is beautiful and spectacular.

There's a lot of layers to the story. Plot twists get thrown at you very often. Characters don't end up being what you think they are.

But the series manages to stay coherent until the end. Everything gets answered, which is a really rare occurrence in manga and makes the end satisfying enough.

I definitely recommend Pandora Hearts - it's really hard to find anything that foreshadows and teases out the background story like this.

My only complaint is that the story gets weaker once all the big reveals are done, and the mangaka has to rely on action and emotional roller coasters to reach the end.

Unsurprisingly, the way some characters change or act toward the end felt pretty melodramatic. It's best read accompanied with music from the anime.

Found it childish and at the same twisted and gruesome, simply put, a mess, tried 3 times to read this, couldn't even start the first two times and the third one I got up to ch 40 or so, I struggled the hole time to keep reading till I reached my limit, won't be a 4th attempt.

I was disgusted by the chars and events. The story itself is twisted and at times sickening, not to mention very convoluted and hard to grasp, and not because of its complexity but of how it's been told, terrible story-telling skills, for example, stop jumping all over the place and introducing questions left and right without developing any of them, by ch20 there were already so many unresolved and ridiculous things that it was even hard to remember them.

In any case, the worst thing of the series are the chars, most if not all are annoying and they have some sort of psycological disorder, there are no sane person among the main chars and their dialogues which is the main method used to explain the story ain't much better either.

When I first started reading it years ago, I was unimpressed because I thought that the author was just tossing in a bunch of mysterious dreamlike scenes and cryptic lines that weren't going to end up actually meaning anything.

But by the end, it all fits together unbelievably well like some beautiful puzzle. A lot of elements throughout the story look like they're going to be things that the author put in for effect that will never get an explanation.

But in this series, not only do they get an explanation, it's a really clear and awesome and sometimes totally unexpected one.

As others have already said here, it all makes sense by the end. All of your questions will be answered by the end--and you'll have a lot of them.

You'll probably also have a lot of incorrect guesses, because the author keeps giving all these misleading clues.

When I was reading, there were sooo many moments where I'd get to a new plot twist and just think, "What?? NO way--that doesn't make any sense! Another thing I liked about this series is that, while it's pretty tragic and can get kind of dramatic, it's never too much so.

You get a sense of the characters' negative thoughts and feelings, but they never get too angsty and instead they grow up a little.

I also like the action, and the humor, and the setting, and the characters. The main character, Oz, is pretty different from any main character I've ever read.

He grows throughout the series, but even from the start I really liked him--it's awesome that the protagonist is a small kid who can win an arm-wrestling match against a huge buff dude by whispering something so horrifying in his ear that the guy looks like his soul's left his body.

But I like almost all of the other characters too, as well as all the characters' relationships with each other. If you drew a character diagram for this series, it would be super dynamic and complicated.

Not because it's confusing or anything--they're all just so intricately connected. It was well done. Anyway, you should just read it. One more thing: If you're the kind of person who cries while reading stuff, you'll probably cry at some point while reading this series, especially towards the end.

But that's okay, just read it already. I love the art, characters' developments, and the plot. The author executed it perfectly.

Traveling back one hundred years into the past during the Tragedy, Alice tries to convince the Core of the Abyss to cut her ties with her twin sister while Oz tries to convince Oswald to reconsider altering the past and focus on helping them stop Jack instead.

Alice's words causes the Core to go berserk out of fear of being left alone, which results with the dimensions distorting even more and Oz and the rest being sent further back into the past, before Oswald and Lacie became Baskervilles.

In the end, Oswald can't bring himself to kill his sister and passes on, returning control to Leo. Using Oz's illegal contractor seal, they reach the Core of the Abyss and manage to convince the Core to cut her ties with the Intention of the Abyss and restore the world back to normal.

Oz and Alice pass away with hopeful dispositions to ensure the safety and security of the world, Gilbert promising them that he will wait for them until they are reincarnated and he can see them again.

After the incident, Pandora is disbanded, the Baskervilles establish a new bond with the Core of the Abyss, and Sharon and the rest who have survived move on with their lives.

Approximately a century later, Vincent brings the reincarnated Oz and Alice to Gilbert before dying in his brother's arms.

Gilbert and Oz both begin crying upon seeing each other for the first time in a hundred years, and Gilbert happily welcomes him and Alice back, essentially dealing with his past griefs and remorse.
